Just a few days ago we saw these two teams clashing in Qualifier 1. The venue for the matches was the same so was the result. As predicted the toss winner, Sunrisers Eastern Cape chose to bat first. Jordan Hermann and Dawid Malan opened the inning for the Sunrisers. Malan couldn’t score high but Hermann played an important inning of 42 runs, the same as him, captain Aiden Markram also added 42 runs to the scoreboard.

Tom Abell played an inning of 55 runs and Tristan Stubb, the lead run-scorer in this match added 56 runs to the scoreboard. At the loss of 3 wickets, the Sunrisers set a huge target of 204 runs. The captain of Super Giants, Keshav Maharaj was the most successful bowler from their side. Now it was the time for their batting unit to chase down this target.

The openers Quinton de Kock and Matthew Breetzke failed to give a good start. Wiaan Mulder played an inning of 38 runs while Dwaine Pretorius scored 28 runs. The rest of the batters failed to contribute significant runs to the scoreboard. Wickets kept falling and they got all out at 115 runs. The player of the match was Tom Abell who scored 55 runs in 34 balls.

Some fans argue that Marco Jansen who was the most successful bowler in this match with 5 wickets should have been chosen as the player of the match. We didn’t expect a one-sided match between these two strong teams, however overall it was an amazing night. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape lifted the trophy for the second consecutive time.

Awards Recipients

He scored 447 runs in 13 innings and for his amazing performance in the tournament, he received R550,000.
