The SA20 – South African Premier League has been successful at entertaining the audience. The six teams competing in the tournament are backed by six different IPL teams. We are all familiar with IPL, the biggest and richest T20 league in the world.
Fans often see or hear the news about millions of dollars in prize money in the IPL, but do you know what’s the prize money in SA20? Let’s discuss how rewarding it is for the team and individual players to play in the tournament.
Prize Money In The First Season
The T20 league, SA20 2023, was held from Jan 10 to Feb 12 last year. It had a purse of 70 million rand, which approximates 33.5 crore in INR. It was the biggest purse in the South African history of the franchise T20 league. According to the officials of SA20, it’s a rewarding and competitive incentive, and hopefully, it would help make a positive impact on South African Cricket in the future.

– MI Cape Town
– Paarl Royals
– Pretoria Capitals
– Durban’s Supergiants
– Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the trophy last year under Aiden Markram’s captaincy and claimed the winning team’s prize. Apart from teams, individual players with the best performances also get rewarded. This was the story of last year, and let us look at what the purse size is in the second season.
Prize Money In SA20 2024
The SA20 scheduled to be held from January 10 to February 10 this year has returned with the same purse size – 70 million in the South African Currency, Rand. But due to fluctuation in currencies, it’s reduced from 33.5 to 31 crore in Indian rupees as of early January. Here’s the overview of prize distribution between the six teams:

As we can see in the table, the winner of the final match on February 10 would receive the lucrative prize amount of 34 million Rand. The winner would claim the biggest prize; however, other teams won’t walk away with empty pockets. Runner-up would get 16.25 million Rand, with third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place receiving 8.9, 7.85, 2.5, and 2 million Rand, respectively. Last year Captain Aiden Markram and left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe from the winning team Sunrisers Eastern Cape were awarded the Player of the Season and Bowler of the Season receiving 3,50,000 and 2,00,000 Rand respectively in prize money. Jos Buttler, Paarl Royals’ destructive opening batsman, claimed the title of Batter of the Season receiving prize money of 2,00,000 Rand.
This year the SA20 officials have decided to introduce the “Rookie” for Season 2 to motivate the young rising talents. It definitely will raise competition among the rising stars to claim this reward of 1,00,000 Rand. SA20 2024 Schedule
The same six teams consisting of world-class and renowned players and coaches will be participating in the tournament. The 34 matches in the tournament are scheduled to be held from January to February across the six venues in South Africa. As we discussed earlier the prize money in SA20 2024 would same as last year. The first match will be played on January 10 between the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings. The final match is scheduled a month later on February 10.
