Mumbai Indians in this year’s auction were quite determined to buy the Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. Despite facing tough competition from other teams, MI managed to get him for INR 4.80 crore. Many compare his bowling style with the former star bowler of the Mumbai franchise, Lasith Malinga, who is currently the bowling coach of the team.
There’s another talented Sri Lankan bowler in the team, Dilshan Madushanka. MI is the most successful IPL team, and Malinga has played an important role in their success. He knows these two bowlers very well, and they will surely feel more confident under his guidance.

Summary
Nuwan Thushara was born in Thalawa, Sri Lanka, on 6 August 1994 and right now he is 29 years old. He focused seriously on his cricketing career late compared to other cricketers. He made his debut in First-Class on 26 December 2015 in the AIA Premier Tournament League, and that’s where his professional cricketing journey began.
After 7 years of hard work, he got the chance to represent his national team Sri Lanka against the Australian team on 13 February 2022 in the T20I. But it seems to be just the start of his international career; he is yet to make his debut in ODI and Test.
In the IPL 2024 auction, we saw the competition to get Thushara, especially between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. One of the reasons why IPL teams were interested in investing in him was his performance in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) last year. He took 11 wickets in 7 matches and was the leading wicket-taker in his team, Jaffna Kings in LPL.
