When talking about the SA20 2024 award-winners, the ultimate award is the trophy that the best-performing team receives in the end. Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape went head-to-head in the final match of the SA20 2024. It was a one-sided match that the Sunrisers won by 89 runs. The SA20 tournament is the biggest franchise cricket league in South Africa, with a prize pool of R70 million which is approximately 4 million in US dollars. The winning team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, claimed almost half of it, R34 million. While the runner-up team, Durban Super Giants received R16.25 million. Apart from these teams, individual best-performing players were also awarded during the ceremony. The South African right-arm medium-fast bowler Ottniel Baartman was given the bowler of the season award. Playing for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Baartman took 18 wickets in 8 matches. Another player from the same team, Marco Jansen received the Rising Star Award. This 23-year-old left-arm fast bowler took 20 wickets in 10 matches. Baartman and Jansen both are young South African bowlers and both received prestigious awards for their great performances in the tournament.
The South African wicket-keeper batter, Heinrich Klaasen received the Batter of the season award. Playing for the runner-up team Durban Super Giants, he made 447 runs in 13 matches. In the final match, Baartman dismissed him in the first ball he played and returned without making any runs. But, throughout the tournament, he made runs consistently. For his exceptional performance in the league, he received another honor, the Player of the Season award.
